The Caraweb Story

As a well travelled caravanner in the UK and Europe, Terry recently teamed up with a long time friend, Dennis, who has travelled in many countries on his motor biking adventures.

They were both aware of the need to keep in touch whilst on their travels and noticed a real gap in the UK caravan and camping site scene.

The service that they have found to be almost non existent in the UK was an easily accessible Broadband Internet connection, which would allow speeds almost the equivalent of a home system.

To cut a long story short, and after much testing of hardware, they installed their first system at a site near Rutland Water in 2006 and, after only a few weeks, it was looking like a real winner.

The installation is very quick and has been tested to over 300m and at that range still gives an acceptable broadband connection.

The site owner is very pleased, as he now charges a modest amount to those visitors wanting the service, and the comments about returning because of it’s availability, will mean the payback period is short.

Sales are made using Surf Cards that are ordered by the campsite and sold on at a price determined by the site owner.

The system is monitored remotely by Caraweb to ensure fair usage and to enable the router to be updated when changes are required.

The system is secure and will run in a site office without a permanent connection to a PC or laptop as it’s a stand alone installation.

All the site has to have is an ADSL broadband connection, which the majority of sites have or can have installed.

Apart from attracting more weekend visitors who will want to return, there is the real potential for people to use the service for longer stays all through the year and even work away from home.

The system allows the same connection as you would have at home, so chatting on MSN, free internet phone calls, surfing the net or simply checking emails are all quick and easy. All the visitor needs is a wireless enabled laptop and a power supply then they can quite literally "Park, Pitch & Surf ™"
